since I restarted school music has become a more dominant part of my daily activities. I have used up/worn out a number of pairs of headphones finally inventing in a set of Grado's and a CMoy amp so I can tune out the world while I am in the studio. my taste in music has changed significantly in the last 2 years......while I still enjoy punk rock and hardcore, I have been listening to a lot of acoustic music lately, decemberist, mumford and sons etc, but the real change has been how much Jazz (hiromi) and Jazz based breakbeat, I can only sculpt efficiently when I have a consistant beat (Mocean worker, Mr Scruff, Hexstatic, Xploding Plastix, Propellerheads etc) if woodchips are flying chances are I have jazz breakbeat between my ears. I really can't think of a time when I'm creating that I'm not listening to music

Three Replies to Music as a muse

I'm glad to hear that you've found so much pleasure in new music. As much as I'd like to drown out the noise around me, I find that I can't listen to music at work too often, because I face too many interruptions to get deep into it. I've created lots of stations on Pandora and enjoyed many -- the hair metal station seeded with Def Leppard and Bon Jovi would make Aaron Shurtleff proud -- but unexpectedly, indie rock is the one I keep coming back to. I've been happy to add some of its best to Rock Block: Metric, Ting Tings, Sounds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I should have gotten into these bands a long time ago.

Pandora......for me its like a buffet where I can taste different things before I shop for myself.....and yeah Indie rock also weighs heavily in my daily work. we usually have Pandora on in the studio though I do not always listen to it

awaiting surgery

I went into work yesterday...getting through the security turnstile that has replace the front doors of my building was more effort than I was expecting. The Elevator was not restful and when I finally did get to my office someone stole my heater (my office is so cold in the spring/summer/fall that an electric heater is required or icicles form from your breath (this isn't a joke). change 2

well I got to work this morning and I got my holiday break back...it seems that our money guys don't want to pay to have 2 groups of people traipsing around the med at roughly the same time soooooo...they want one team to fly from end to end and then back again over a three week period and it's probably gonna end up costing as much if not more than it would for 2 teams to but and here is the part that sucks for me it'll cost less this year, and we are broke this year, Jan 1 starts are next batch of money...so Go »

Under water and leeching

yesterdays rains have lead to a flooded power station, 24 hours of no power, a river that looks like class 6 rapids and me sitting in the parking lot of my local Midas drinking DnD coffee and leeching Wifi trying to find out if I've got school this afternoon.....I hope we have power by tonight I would really like to cook diner instead of take out again. Oh what a day

After spending the morning cleaning and setting up for a visit from my inlaws (looking forward to that being over) I spent the afternoon Downhill skateboarding with a bunch of guys...life is so simple with a bit of speed. I'm the 4th guy to enter the screen, Black shirt, Blue helmet, Pink wheels trying to stay in the draft of the two kids in a tight draft train. Go »

the next grand adventure..........

as a retired sailor I really thought nothing of deploying and leaving my wife with the cats and dog at home while I went off to fight wars, fix submarines and otherwise earn a living.......now the shoe is on the other foot. I am in school fulltime taking care of the cats, the dog the house and whatever else pops up while my wife and best friend moves to DC to take her dream job. Go »
